Director of Music — Now Receiving Applications
Job Overview
St. Paul Church worships in the Wesley Tradition. We are a vibrant congregation of 800 active members seeking full or part-time musical leadership for the 21st Century. This position must work directly with a dedicated professional staff of clergy and lay persons to create and contribute to the spiritual worship through music.
The current worship life of the congregation centers around various musical styles offered in two traditional services and one contemporary service each Sunday. An adult choir, a contemporary worship ensemble/band, a children’s choir, and a handbell choir provide support during these services. This position will need to be able to work with others, oversee those groups and assist in the selection of music, as well as participate and/or oversee events focused on the music for our Church as a whole. The arrangement of guest artists may also be required to fulfill the worship needs of the church.
This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor. The Church seeks someone skilled at conducting, as well as playing the organ, piano, and, possibly, other instruments. The playing capabilities may not be required if another individual can resume those duties for the Church. Columbus is a culturally rich community. This position will need to work with Schwob School of Music, a part of Columbus State University, in augmenting our music program by recruiting professional instrumentalists as needed.
The work hours are varied, but presence during the practices and services remains critical. The physical requirements of the position necessitate walking, climbing stairs, standing for at least an hour at a time. The Church will discuss and provide any reasonable accommodation that allows the individual to perform the essential functions of this position, provided it does not cause an undue hardship.
